SEATTLE — Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell announced Monday a $15 million community safety investment aimed at preventing young people from picking up firearms. The city plans to deliver violence prevention resources through data-driven intervention strategies.

The initiative comes as Seattle police have seized 1,380 guns this year, an average of five per day, and arrested 17 children for carrying firearms in the first six months alone, including one child as young as 13 years old. The city's new approach combines police data analysis with community-based mental health services and violence prevention staff to identify and support those most at risk.
