CALHOUN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - After Calhoun County Commissioner Jacob McCumbers was arrested last week on 50 counts of sexual abuse, community leaders began the process for removing him.
In West Virginia, the process is governed by West Virginia State Code §6-6-7 . According to the code, it can begin in three ways:
By a resolution from the county commission
By an action by the county prosecuting attorney
By a petition from registered voters.
According to the attorney for the Calhoun County Commission, Kevin Harris, the commission has begun drafting a resolution to remove McCumbers. Harris told WSAZ he is allowing McCumbers the chance to resign on his own before filing the resolution.
There is also a petition by registered voters. In Calhoun County, it needs 100 registered voters
