CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A Charlotte police officer was placed on unpaid leave after he was charged with DWI over the weekend in Montgomery County, according to officials.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said on Monday, Sept. 22, that Officer Matt Wilson, who was off-duty at the time, was driving a vehicle in Montgomery County and was involved in a vehicle crash on Sunday, Sept. 21.
Highway patrol said they found probable cause and charged Wilson with driving while under the influence.
Charlotte police said that Officer Wilson was placed on unpaid administrative leave, and the Internal Affairs division was investigating the crash.
Wilson was hired in May, 2020.
