The University of Michigan’s Senate Assembly met Monday afternoon at the Alexander G. Ruthven Building for the first meeting of the 2025-2026 academic school year. They introduced new faculty members to the Assembly, voted on committee charges and discussed a resolution concerning the Presidential Search Advisory Committee. They also talked about issues of campus surveillance and new federal H-1B policies .

Derek Peterson, chair of the Senate Advisory Committee on University Affairs, welcomed new SACUA electees and delivered an orientation presentation at the start of the meeting. Peterson also addressed the vacant SACUA seat left by Alex Yasha Yi, inviting members of the larger Senate Assembly to nominate themselves for the committee.
