Parents are outraged after learning of a bid to charge them $2200 for their own children’s artwork to help cover the debts of a community-run preschool and kindergarten — which has closed amid financial troubles.
Parents were reportedly emailed asking them to “oppose” or “agree” to the hefty fee to raise funds to pay more than $40,000 owning to staff at Craigslea Kindergarten and Preschool.
The centre, in the Brisbane suburb of Chermside West, is registered as a charity and lists one parent as a committee member, according to a Courier Mail report on Tuesday.
A report lodged with the charity regulator at the end of last year showed it was nearly $45,000 in the red, the outlet said.
