CONCORD, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A serious vehicle crash has shut down all southbound lanes of I-85 at Exit 55 in Concord on Tuesday morning, causing major traffic delays.

The crash happened around 8 a.m. near mile marker 55 in Cabarrus County. All four southbound lanes are currently closed, and troopers are urging drivers to avoid the area if possible.

Emergency crews, including Cabarrus County EMS, are at the scene. Queen City News is working to confirm details on injuries. A medical helicopter has been called to the scene.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash. Traffic in the area is already backing up, and the expected impact is high.
