French President Emmanuel Macron ran into some New York City gridlock while in town for the United Nations General Assembly but knew someone better to call than the mayor about the frustrating congestion.

Police blocked Macron’s vehicle to allow another fleet of vehicles to pass: President Donald Trump’s motorcade. Officers smiled and apologized for the inconvenience.

In a widely shared video, Macron got out of his car and initially asked the police to simply let him pass before the motorcade arrived.

“If you don’t see it, let me pass,” Macron said.

No dice. So Macron called Trump to clear up the matter.

“Hey, how are you?” Macron said. “Guess what, I am waiting in the street because everything is frozen for you. Ha!”

Macron eventually followed in the footsteps of many New Yorkers frustrated with traffic and walked to his destination, the French embassy.

He even paused for the occasional selfie – and a kiss on the forehead – along the route.
