An employee of Fairbanks North Star Borough School District is suing for alleged discrimination against their mental health disorder, a violation of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which resulted in their demotion. This is the second discrimination lawsuit filed against the district this month.

Julie Lowery filed a complaint with the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska on September 15 alleging the district was complacent in the hostile treatment she received from her former supervisor, then Director of Technology at FNSBSD Richard J. Stevens III.
