Thousands of households are being encouraged to see if they qualify for a discount on their water bill, which could average £194 annually. If you're on a low income or receiving benefits, you might be eligible for a social water tariff. This special tariff could potentially reduce your bill by up to 90%.

The specific support available and eligibility criteria vary among water companies, but it's estimated that over 3.8 million households are missing out on this opportunity. According to Policy in Practice, an estimated £745 million worth of support is going unclaimed.

Based on these figures, the average household could cut their water bill by £194 per year. For instance, Affinity Water caps water bills at £143.80 annually, or £95.80 if you're receiving council tax support.
