A West Michigan family has agreed to settle its lawsuit against a Wendy’s franchisee.

The Lamfers family was seeking more than $20 million when it sued Meritage Hospitality Group in April 2024 over an E. coli infection that left their 11-year-old, with " permanent injuries and life-changing medical conditions .”

The two sides reached a settlement agreement this month, according to Thomas Worsfold, the Lamfers’ attorney. A civil trial had been scheduled to begin in January 2026.

Wendy’s International has paid more than $2.8 million to Michigan residents to settle a series of lawsuits related to a 2022.

Worsfold declined to share the amount of the settlement or any additional details. The agreement still needed to be approved by the court.
