Her email to an OPP officer early in 2017 outlined what a grieving mother wanted more than a year after her toddler died of a head injury.
After telling the officer she and her children were happy about some snow days that cancelled the school buses, she added: “Any happiness or joy we experienced will always be overshadowed by the homicide of our son, Nathaniel, committed by Meggin Van Hoof. “

“He was a helpless, defenceless baby in her care. There is evidence he was assaulted. He is dead. She refuses to cooperate. Charge her!!!!”
“You were making an emphatic – I would suggest, a demand – to (the officer) to charge Meggin Van Hoof,” defence lawyer Geoff Snow said during his cross-examination of Nathaniel McLellan’s mother Rose-Anne Van de Wiele.
“I was writing
