Nathaniel McLellan’s mother said she had “concerns” about how the Strathroy-Caradoc police were handling the investigation into her toddler’s sudden death.

There hadn’t been any charges against Meggin Van Hoof, the daycare provider who had Nathaniel in her care when he suddenly went into distress from what turned out to be blunt-force trauma to his head.

But Rose-Anne Van De Wiele had heard things swirling around the community – second, third, fourth-hand information floating around Strathroy that the case was closed and that the police had deemed Nathaniel’s death to be accidental.

That wasn’t what she had been told. In February 2017, after voicing her dismay to her OPP victim liaison officer Det. Todd Amlin, he advised her to gather information if she had any.
