(KRON) -- The sole employee of a nonprofit organization that works with the San Jose Police Department to provide assistance to injured officers and their families is under investigation for embezzlement, authorities announced Monday.

Margie Thompson allegedly embezzled approximately $43,000 from the Keith Kelly Club over the course of five years between January 2020 and January 2025, SJPD said. The investigation began after a volunteer with the nonprofit reported to police on March 17 that they had discovered a discrepancy in the organization’s finances.

The Keith Kelly Club is funded through donations made by personnel within the San Jose Police Department. The organization was formed in 1944 and is named after the first SJPD officer who lost his life in World War II.
