LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)-- An Eaton County teacher won the Excellence in Education Award from the Michigan Lottery.
Erik Smith is a high school business and media teacher and coach at Eaton Rapids High School. Smith was recognized for giving back to the community in which he was born and raised.
"Mr. Smith's positive energy and attitude profoundly impact his students every day," said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli in a news release sent to 6 News.
"His dedication goes far beyond the classroom, as he coaches throughout the year to help students realize their full potential."
Shkreli said Smith was nominated for the award by his father.
Erik is in his 19th year of teaching, all at Eaton Rapids High School. He graduated from ERHS in 1998 and decided he wanted to give back to the commu
