NEW YORK - Hundreds of servers and electronic devices were located and dismantled by the U.S. Secret Service ahead of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.
Secret Service said in a press release that the devices " were used to conduct multiple telecommunications-related threats directed towards senior U.S. government officials" and " could be used to conduct a wide range of telecommunications attacks" such as disabling cell phone towers and facilitating encrypted, anonymous communication.
Secret Service said they moved quickly considering that over 100 world leaders from across the globe were gathering for the 80th assembly of the United Nations at its Manhattan headquarters.
