The Steelers have one of the worst defenses in the NFL after the first three weeks of the season, but their struggling secondary could get a big lift with the potential returns of cornerback Joey Porter Jr. and strong safety DeShon Elliott.
Coach Mike Tomlin said both players have a chance to dress for Sunday’s game against the Vikings in Dublin. Porter has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury, and Elliott has missed the past two with a knee injury.
If they are able to play, Tomlin said they will be eased backed into the lineup the way rookie defensive lineman Derrick Harmon was in Sunday’s win over the Patriots. Harmon played 35 snaps because the coaches were concerned about his level of conditioning after being out for three weeks.
