The long-standing award recognising Scotland's 'most dismal' towns, known as the 'Plook on the Plinth' Carbuncle trophy, has been scrapped following its rejection by the most recent winners.

Port Glasgow , the latest recipient of the dubious honour, declined to accept it, with representatives branding the award as 'poverty tourism'.

Social entrepreneur Kevin Green, who turned down the Carbuncle on behalf of Inverclyde's second-largest town, argued the award failed to celebrate Port Glasgow's "punching up, not punching down" spirit.
