A Sioux Falls woman has reportedly been scammed “a significant amount of money,” Sioux Falls Police Department public information officer Aaron Benson said Sept. 22.

During five months’ time, the victim told police she had given more than $200,000 on TikTok to a man “living overseas,” who in return promised her a bank account “with her name on it” and $1 million within.

The victim had passed on the money via Apple gift cards and Bitcoin transactions, Benson said during his daily media briefing.

Benson said there are no suspects at this time and that “it will be next to impossible to recoup that money.”
