The green light for a new Indigenous health hub to proceed has been described as "a significant milestone" for healthcare in the region.
After years of "blood, sweat and tears", Tamworth Aboriginal Medical Service - Aboriginal Corporation's (TAMS-AC) much-needed and long-awaited new medical centre in South Tamworth has received development approval by the Northern Regional Planning Panel (NRPP).
The news came as a huge relief for all involved, with the project being plagued by bureaucratic and funding delays, and complaints about a lack of consultation, which led to Tamworth Regional Council making a last-minute submission to the panel .
"Absolutely heart-stopping," TAMS-AC chairperson and proud Gomeroi woman Aunty Cathy Trindall said of learning that the NRPP had granted approval.
