A bandit armed with a wrench assaulted a woman who tried to help a store employee during a robbery at a dessert shop in Markham, according to York Regional Police.

The thug was unable to steal any money from the shop on Copper Creek Blvd., getting away with only a can of soda, police alleged.

The robber entered the store on Monday around 8:15 p.m. and demanded cash. Police said the thief  threatened an employee with his wrench.

And when a passing woman entered the store to help the employee, the bandit assaulted the Good Samaritan, according to the allegations.

Police released images of a suspect who was riding a white mountain bike.
