MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Some East Tennessee groups are playing a key part in counteracting labor shortages in the aviation industry, launching a new program Tuesday.

Aviation Technology is a product of Pellissippi State Community College and Blount Partnership. The 18-month course is aimed at creating a local pipeline for airframe and powerplant maintenance technicians, widely considered high-paying jobs.

“Today really is an example of what happens when the right people find the right time and the right place – the right equipment, the right support – to do something that’s incredibly important for a community and a region,” Pellissippi President L. Anthony Wise Jr. said. “We would not be here cleared for takeoff without each and every person in this room.”
