ALLEN PARK -- Detroit Lions running back Sione Vaki’s season debut lasted only seven snaps on special teams in Baltimore.

The second-year pro exited late in the first half and did not return due to a groin injury. The 2024 fourth-rounder was spotted limping gingerly off the field with trainers at his side in the second quarter.

Vaki was back in his role as kickoff returner alongside fellow running back Jacob Saylors. And he even made an impressive tackle in punt coverage, looking like himself for a fleeting moment.

But the special teams standout has been unable to stay on the field to open his sophomore campaign. Vaki suffered a hamstring injury to open training camp, and had a stop-and-go kind of month, unable to build any type of momentum.

Now, his status moving forward is uncertain.
