One of the main barriers facing the region’s aerospace sector is the lack of passenger train service to and from Toronto.

The irony made for a chuckle at a recent roundtable meeting of industry experts, but there’s a serious need to connect to a broader talent pool — a need for better mobility from Toronto Pearson Airport and the Greater Toronto Area, said NAVBLUE’s vice-president of operational excellence and managing director, Erin Appleby.

Appleby participated in a panel discussion Tuesday in Kitchener following Waterloo Region Chair Karen Redman’s state of the region address.

The Region of Waterloo International Airport is home to 44 aviation and aerospace businesses and provides $390 million in economic output and more than 1,300 jobs, Redman noted.
