A 16-year-old California boy has died in a crash after he recently got his driver's license.

The Santa Clara Police Department said in a statement that officers responded to the fatal crash around 9:36 p.m. local time on Saturday, Sept. 20, and found the driver — identified by family as Isaiah Mendoza — still inside a Honda Accord. Two passengers were outside the vehicle.

The Santa Clara Fire Department performed life-saving measures for Mendoza, but he died at the scene.
