A Shelbyville woman has been charged in connection with the death of her nearly 2-year-old son after first responders observed the boy was already in a state of decomposition by the time 911 was called.

Just after 10:45 p.m. on Sep. 17, 2025, Sophie Igou called 911 and said she'd found her youngest child cold to the touch. Minutes later, officers with the Shelbyville Police Department found her standing in the driveway of her mobile home, holding 22-month-old Jasper Igou wrapped in a sheet.

Though Igou, 28, said she'd just found the boy unresponsive while checking on him, police wrote that the boy "appeared to have been deceased for a significant amount of time." A search of the home would uncover "decomposing material" in the boy's crib, believed to be remnants of his body.
