WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A former Waco police sergeant turned contractor remains free on bond after his arrest Monday on a felony theft charge.

Dealan James (D.J.) Adams, 42, of Woodway, posted $10,000 bond and was released from the McLennan County Jail on Tuesday after his arrest on a theft of services of more than $30,000 but less than $150,000 charge, a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Adams was named in a sealed indictment Sept. 11 and was taken into custody Monday. The theft case was investigated by the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office and sent to the District Attorney’s Office without an arrest as a grand jury referral case.
