SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Local, state and federal leaders broke ground on a much-needed upgrade to the Iowa Army National Guard Base in Sioux City.
The Iowa Army National Guard broke ground on its new Vehicle Maintenance Shop on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
The new 25,000-square-foot shop will replace the current shop, which has been in service since 1953.
The expanded space will support up to 18 mechanics, nearly doubling the staff.
Among the leaders celebrating this milestone was U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa. The Republican, who served for more than 20 years in the Iowa Army National Guard, said this upgrade is long overdue.
“These young maintainers,” said Sen. Ernst. “They’re working in a facility that is over 70 years old. Now they will have more modern conveniences. Equipment needs have changed
