DES MOINES, Iowa —

A Dallas County jury has awarded former Polk County human resources director Jim Nahas more than $4 million in a wrongful termination lawsuit , with taxpayers expected to help cover part of the award.

The jury agreed that several Polk County leaders libeled Nahas when he was fired in 2020 , marking a significant moment in a long history of infighting among the Polk County supervisors. Polk County Supervisor Matt McCoy expressed uncertainty about how to repair the damage within the existing board.
