UPDATE: The Mayor of Pikeville has responded to TDEC's violation that points to sewage in water ways.

In July of this year, TDEC gave a violation notice to Pikeville after finding high levels of e. coli. TDEC also found dissolved oxygen, total residual chlorine, and ammonium. These could be toxic at high concentrations.

City of Pikeville Mayor Phillip Cagle responded to this violation on August 6th of this year.

His response says the Water Treatment Plant is older. Because of this, Mayor Cagle says that it took time find the correct equipment parts. He says the city had an outside vendor conduct river testing.

Also with his response, Mayor Cagle said the city is building a new $20 million dollar Waste Water Treatment Plant.

The city received another violation in September from TDEC.
