RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Chesterfield County area residents packed a room at Tuesday’s State Corporation Commission hearing.

Dozens of people with the community group Friends of Chesterfield sported their red shirts opposing the gas plant.

“This is a catastrophe,” one resident said.

Residents and elected officials alike said that the gas plant, which would be located where the retired coal plant is on Coxendale Road, would lead to health problems for people living near it. They pointed out that those tend to be low-income families and communities of color.
