WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A court document providing details in the case against a Wichita woman charged in a reported accidental shooting that injured her granddaughter in April concludes with an admission from the woman that her “negligence” was to blame for the child’s injuries.
An affidavit lays out the circumstances that led to the child getting a hold of Ana Sorto Mejia’s unsecured handgun in a bedroom and suffering two gunshot wounds.
“[The 4-year-old girl] was transported to Wesley Medical Center and taken directly to surgery,” the affidavit said. “At the hospital, [a doctor] examined [the child] and reported her to have sustained two penetrating gunshot wounds to her stomach and buttocks.”
