DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- An Amtrak train collision that left a pedestrian dead closed two Durham intersections on Tuesday evening.
Durham Police said the deadly incident happened shortly after 5:30 p.m. near Ninth Street and Pettigrew Street.
Ninth Street at West Main Street and Swift Avenue at West Pettigrew Street remained closed to traffic until nearly 10:10 p.m.
Police said the passenger train was travelling east, and the conductor saw a man walking in its path. He told investigators that he blew the horn to alert the man, but the pedestrian did not move out of the way.
