WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has hired more than 2,000 new air traffic controllers since January.
The DOT said the goal for the period was 2,000.
“The FAA is focused on filling every seat at its rigorous FAA Academy – 600 in August alone, exceeding July’s record of 550 trainees, the highest number of students in FAA history,” according to a press release.
The FAA previously warned in May that travelers may experience delays due to a shortage of air traffic controllers.
