Recruitment of new air traffic controllers reached a milestone after more than 2,000 new controllers were hired this year, delivering on a pledge to increase staffing after a spring air traffic control system meltdown at Newark Liberty International Airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) surpassed its 2025 air traffic controller goals, hiring 2,026 new controllers to alleviate personnel shortages in control towers of the nation’s airports, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said in a statement.
