FARGO — Fargo Cass Public Health’s Food and Beverage Department goes to hundreds of restaurants in town annually for safety inspections.
The director of environmental health for Cass Public Health said they divide food service establishments into three different tiers. Convenience stores get one annual check, fast food facilities get two checks, and sit-down restaurants receive three inspections each year.
The No. 1 thing inspectors look for every time is clean hands.
"Every place should be washing their hands adequately and doing it the right way. And if they have ready food, like they’re making a sandwich, then they’d use gloves, right? So if we can have that ... so we stop that, your hands as a vehicle for cross contamination, that’s kind of what we’re looking for," said Grant Larson
