WEST DES MOINES, Iowa —
A student was found with a firearm at a central Iowa high school on Tuesday afternoon, authorities say.
According to the West Des Moines Police Department, the school resource officer at Valley High School was notified of potential vaping in one of the school's restrooms around 2:15 p.m.
The SRO and school administrators located the students involved and found one of them had a handgun.
Police say both students involved were removed from the school and one was taken to Juvenile Court on an unrelated matter.
The firearm was seized by police and they say there was no violence or threat of violence and no one was injured.
The incident remains under investigation.
