SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Gov. Tim Walz said Tuesday that he's still in discussions for a special session to respond to the Annunciation Church shooting, but his comments suggested that legislative leaders may have reached a standstill during negotiations.
After the mass shooting at Annunciation, Walz vowed to call lawmakers back to discuss gun restrictions, but he still has not set a date for any special session. DFL leaders have made passing a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines their highest priority, as shown in two Senate Gun Violence Prevention Working Group meetings last week, but it's not clear if their own caucus has the votes to pass such bills.
