EASTFORD, Conn. — A man was sentenced to prison for setting fire to an Eastford church and buildings in Woodstock in 2023, according to the state Division of Criminal Justice Tuesday.
The DCJ did not name the man, noting that he set the fires when he was a minor. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison, suspended after three years served, followed by five years of probation.
Investigators learned that the series of arson fires took place in April 2023. One of the fires destroyed the historic Congregational Church of Eastford, built in 1829. Others damaged buildings in Crystal Pond Park in Woodstock.
The case was transferred to adult court due to the "serious nature of the crimes," the DCJ said. He pleaded guilty on June 20 to a charge of arson in the second degree and was sentenced on
