BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. —

Hundreds of students could be going to new schools next year in Bullitt County, thanks to the district's new realignment plan.

The Bullitt County School Board voted 4-1 Monday night in favor of the plan, which has a goal of balancing capacity across the school district.

Bullitt County Schools Superintendent Jesse Bacon said this move is necessary because the district has not been redrawn in over 20 years.

"We've got areas of the county that have been growing quickly, and other areas where we've got room in some of our buildings," said Bacon. "So for us, it's really about trying to balance out capacity so we can ensure that we have an equitable distribution of our resources."

Bacon also said this move is necessary to get ready for more growth in the coming years.
