PROVO — Several sheep were killed Tuesday afternoon when a semitruck hauling the animals crashed in Provo Canyon.
The semi was heading west on U.S. 189 at 2 p.m. when it lost control on a curve near East Canyon Road and rolled, said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cameron Roden. Multiple sheep were killed in the accident, he said, and emergency responders were trying to transport the rest of the sheep to a controlled environment.
The driver of the semi was not injured in the crash.
The right lane is blocked, and heavy delays are expected for westbound traffic between the Deer Creek Reservoir and the crash site, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.
There is no estimate for when the roadway will be fully open again.
