Reasonable doubt caused a judge last month to dismiss 13 gun and drug charges laid against a Brantford man.

Alpha O’Kieffe, 44, came out of a shower at 4 a.m. soaking wet but fully dressed as police raided a Sheridan Street home on Sept. 5, 2024, which made him an extremely suspicious character in the eyes of officers, court heard.

In the nearby bathroom closet was a satchel with a loaded handgun and another with cocaine worth more than $18,000.

In the bed police believed to be O’Kieffe’s was a guitar case with two long guns and some p-fluorofentanyl worth more than $43,000.

But, at trial where 11 police officers testified, the issue came down to whether it was O’Kieffe who possessed the guns and drugs or one of the seven other people who were in the drug house.
