The opener of the Detroit Tigers AL Central showdown against the Cleveland Guardians took a bloody turn in the sixth inning Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Progressive Field in Cleveland.

With the Tigers leading 2-1 and runners on first and third, Guardians designated hitter David Fry attempted to put down a bunt on a 99.1 mph four-seam fastball, the fourth pitch from left-hander Tarik Skubal, on a 2-1 count.

Fry made contact but fouled the ball directly into his face. The slugger immediately went to the ground, covering his face. As the Guardians staff came out to tend to him, Fry stood up and blood was visible streaming from his nose.
