SILVER POINT, Tenn. (WSMV) - A family is mourning the death of a mother and son killed in a shooting.

Isaiah and Christina Hawkins were shot at least 16 times, according to court documents, after arriving at an Overton County home.

“I could have protected her,” relative Justice Hawkins explained. “It hurts me, but I’m having to be the strong one.”

Authorities identified Payton Nations as the alleged shooter. He is Isaiah’s ex-wife’s boyfriend.

Nations is accused of opening fire on them after they showed up to get his child, following her reportedly being involved in a fight with him.
