LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

The Anchorage-Middletown Fire Department is looking to recruit more women to its ranks.

Erin Simon joined the department two years ago after ending her pro soccer career, which included a stint with Racing Louisville.

She says her brother, who is a volunteer firefighter, inspired her.

Only 10 out of nearly 200 firefighters and paramedics with AMFEMS are women.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, women make up about nine percent of all firefighters.

Simon wants other women to know it can be a good career.

"I do love hanging out with the guys and I'm part of them. They don't treat me any different, and I'm just one of them which is great," she said. "We're all treated exactly the same. No difference. And you know fire doesn't discriminate. So you g
