GREENSBORO, N.C. — Hurricane season is heating up. This week, we're going to be busy tracking the Atlantic for you. Signs are pointing to not only one, but two areas that could develop into tropical storms or hurricanes by the weekend. We need to watch them closely here in the Carolinas.

Two Areas to Watch

The National Hurricane Center is highlighting two tropical waves - basically big clusters of thunderstorms - moving across the Atlantic. They're weak now, and aren't expected to develop over the next couple days as harsh winds work against them.

As they move closer to some of the Caribbean Islands by the end of the week and the weekend, conditions will get more favorable for them to form.

It's unusual for two storms to form fairly close to one another, but it can happen on occasion.
