The Gillette City Council is looking for feedback from residents on what changes they would like to see made to the city’s nuisance ordinances.

Last week, Amy Smith, a senior code compliance inspector, presented to the city council, comparing Gillette to Cheyenne, Casper and Rapid City, South Dakota, as well as Laramie.

Those first three communities each have four employees tasked with code enforcement, while Gillette has one and a half. Laramie just has one.

In Gillette, grass can grow up to 12 inches before it’s considered a violation of city code, compared to 6 inches in Laramie and Cheyenne and 8 inches in Casper. Councilmembers said while 6 inches was too short, they’d support lowering the threshold from 12 inches, if it’s what their constituents want.
