LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Louisville police are looking to partner with local gun owners to help crack down on stolen guns with the start of a new program.

The program is called “Save a Casing”. Legal gun owners are invited to fire off their guns during an event at a shooting range. They’ll get a special envelope where they can store a spent shell casing. That way, if the gun is ever stolen, they can submit the casing to LMPD, who may be able to trace the gun back. Casings act like fingerprints and will let investigators know if that gun has been used in another crime.
