The violent drugs war involving crime boss Ross McGill l has caused Scotland's major gangs to self destruct and created an opening for foreign criminals to takeover according to a former police chief. ‌

Tom Wood believes the arrest last week in Dubai of McGill and four others, including the head of the Lyons crime family Steven Lyons, has left a massive vacuum in the criminal underworld which other gangsters both at home and abroad will be looking to fill. ‌

In the last six months McGill is said to have orchestrated a series of fire bombings and other attacks on properties linked to Edinburgh cocaine baron Mark Richardson and members of the Glasgow based Daniel crime family after he was allegedly ripped off in a £500,000 cocaine deal. ‌
