A key part of the festivities for the 40th annual Mars Applefest is the Mars Area Public Library’s annual fall book sale, to be held in the library’s community room.

The sale takes place Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 2 through 5. This includes Saturday, Oct. 4, the day of Applefest, when the sale runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The organizers are the Friends of the Mars Library, a group of volunteers dedicated to raising money to sustain the library’s operations.

“They plan our two big book sales and they run those book sales to gain funds to help support library operations,” said library director Janae Callihan. “Last fall, the Friends were able to raise over $3,000 for the book sale.”

The other book sale takes place during the spring.
