MURRAY – Thirty-five individuals from 18 different countries took the Oath of Allegiance to become United States citizens Tuesday as Murray State University hosted a naturalization ceremony for the first time in its 103-year history.
The proceedings were overseen by U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Alan Stout, a Murray State alum and former chair of the MSU Board of Regents. While naturalization ceremonies typically take place in a federal courtroom in Louisville, Stout said he was proud that Murray State was able to host such an event for the first time. He said he started working with former MSU President Dr. Bob Jackson about a year ago to bring the event to campus, and he thanked the U.S. District Court Clerk’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service for coordinating with MSU to make it happen.
